RAPID ASSESSMENT - PARTICIPATORY MAPPING

Prompt – On the large pieces of paper you are provided with in class, draw your map of SAU. Take about 5 minutes to draw your map of SAU. 

When you are done, get in groups of three (3) and compare your maps. In your group discussions, try to answer the following questions: 

  1. Why do you think you drew your SAU map the way you did?
  2. What can you learn about your groupmates based on their maps?
  3. What are the commonalities and differences between your maps? 
  4. Do you think implementing this activity with the insiders of your subculture could be an effective technique to get a better insight into the culture? Why or why not?
  5. Be ready to share your responses with the rest of the class. 

RAPID ASSESSMENT - DAILY CALENDAR

Prompt – On the back of the papers where you drew your SAU map, write your detailed daily routine, starting from the first thing you when you wake to the last thing you do before going to bed. Take about 5 minutes to write your daily calendar. 

When you are done, get in back with your group and compare your daily calendars. In your group discussion, try to address the following questions: 

  1. What are the commonalities between your calendars? 
  2. What are the differences between your routines?
  3. What would you say are the daily indispensable activities for your group members? 
  4. What would you say are the daily optional activities for your group members? 
  5. Share your responses with the rest of the class. 
  6. On the basis of class discussion, could you confidently describe the daily routine of a Composition II section 3 student? 
  7. Do you think implementing this activity with the insiders of your subculture could be an effective technique to get a better insight into the culture? Why or why not?
